Teams
at Style Gymnastics
Pre-competitive teams were formed in 1996 at Style Gymnastics, Damascus, Maryland. Soon thereafter, competitive teams became a reality. This year, Style celebrates its 10th year of competition and was excited to send gymnasts to States, Regionals and Nationals.
Style Gymnastics is a proud member of the USA Gymnastics
Association (USAG). Our coaching staff is professional, personal,
safety certified and highly qualified. Our emphasis is on correct
form, proper technique and precise execution …this results in a
stronger base in the sport for all of our competitors. Style offers
USAG teams ranging from Level 5-10. Level 5 and 6 gymnasts compete
locally and do not attend State competition. Once a gymnast reaches
Level 7, she will compete in local meets and will travel within the
state and occasionally outside of Maryland.
Level 8's,
9's and 10's will travel locally and may compete outside the state
several times each year. International Meets are scheduled on
alternative years.
Style is also a member of the Mason Dixon League which offers your child the opportunity to be “gently” introduced into competitive gymnastics. Gymnasts showcase their skills with individual routines. This experience builds a good learning environment in a lower key environment.
Class students who are interested in eventually competing should indicate that to the coaching and administrative staff. When your child has mastered basic skills and has shown growth in strength and flexibility, she will be invited to training or pre-team (depending on her age). On training/pre-team, she will continue to work on skills necessary for competition. Also, during her year on pre-team, mom and dad are “gently” introduced to the sport and the requirements and expectations for gymnast families.
When a gymnast becomes part of the competitive team, families are expected to participate in the Parent Association which provides support to the team and its competitive endeavors.
